Obama’s Use of force

The anticipation is over after a few days of a military standoff between the US Navy and a group of Somali Pirates. President Obama gave the go ahead to use deadly force leaving three Somali Pirates dead and a grateful Navy Captain, Richard Phillips, grateful for his life.

Many people were saying that Obama was doing nothing, when in fact, he did everything that a President could have and should have done. He didn’t go flaunting himself in front of the public’s eye and he didn’t get everyone over-excited about the situation, which would simply add fuel to the fire. President Barack Obama showed poise, character and a levelheadedness that we haven’t seen(arguably) since JFK. When the smoke was filtered away by the chilly ocean air, Obama still remained behind the scenes and the situation was still taken care of which gives the American people a sense of security and hope. This truly is a day for all to remember and reflect on.

Richard Phillips may be a bit rattled and shaken, but the determination and honor of this Captain will ring true throughout the country, bringing a sense of pride and national security back to the Nations forefront which is desperately needed given the state of affairs and the view of the government at this stage in the game. Many people have gained respect for this nation’s leaders once again and this will do a lot to boost morale among the people of this Great Country.

Since the victory over the kidnapped Captain, Obama still has not claimed credit for the outcome, nor should he. President Obama gave the ultimate decision to use deadly force but it was the men and women in Uniform that deserve this victory.
