Reuters is reporting that Gm is being urged by our government to lower wages, make the company go into bankruptcy and re-negotiate all of their contracts. I know which one is at the top of the list to be re-negotiated..that’s right. The Union’s.
My point is that when the banking industry failed(or began to), Bush and the Democratic House decided to give out tons of cash to the banking industry in the form of a bail-out. I call it a bail-out because there was no oversight for the money that was given and there were no promises needed from the banking industry to change any current policies to keep it from happening again. These companies, ironically enough, are not unionized, which leads me back to my original point…They hand out money to the banking industry with no strings attached, but the Unionized Auto-manufacturers(that didn’t cause our current recession) are given a “loan” and then told that they will have to file chapter 11 bankruptcy to re-negotiate all contracts, slash wages, change the healthcare trust from cash to equity and lower employee benefits all at the same time. This is happening while we watch the executives from these banking firms, which are not held to task by a union, take our hard-earned tax-payer dollars and go on shopping sprees. This is too much of a coincidence and looks too much like what Reagan did during his Union-busting Crusade.
Here is the problem with cutting of benefits and pay. Those employees that make more than enough money to pay for all of their bills and then some, are now going to have to stop buying things because they will be losing their hats once a wage slash is put into place. This means that the recession will actually deepen. Less income means less revenue for our Country, less revenue means we have to borrow the money to continue funding the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan(and now perhaps Somalia). Perhaps along with cutting wages they’ll cut a few jobs, ‘causing a few more people to be placed into unemployment or under-employment. This is not going to solve any of the issues we face today and will actually worsen our situation. They are asking GM to lower wages down to what foreign auto-makers pay. This is an absurd insinuation that we are only worth what the foreign auto-manufacturers are worth. Does that make sense to you? Drop our nations wages to what other countries do, but continue to hand billions out to the banking industry.
Well that’s all I really have to point out about that. There is this huge uprising against the middle class, unfortunately the ones that will be hit the hardest are going to be the middle class, not top 1/10 of 1%. Think about this guys…This is our country…This is our future…lets take this puppy by the reigns and lead the way.
